Ontario, CANADA :: Tama Lynn & Amanda :: Spark Of My Heart // Real LGBTQ Engagement

:: Spark Of My Heart::

Photographed & Submitted by :: {MRSter Approved} Oren & Jones Photography

Local to Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada, these two lovely ladies met online and fell in love in 2007. There was an instant spark, and they’ve have been absolutely inseparable ever since.

With a love for family, friends, and baseball, there’s never a dull moment.

In May of 2015, Tama Lynn, in front of family and friends, played a short video she had put together about their relationship. Chronicling their first date, family vacations, their dog Lacey and cat Sebastian. She then got down on one knee and presented Amanda with a ring. A ring she had specially made out of Ammonite; a rare Canadian gem which radiates a brilliant rainbow.

She was thrilled when she heard Amanda say ‘yes!’

Chicago, ILLINOIS :: Cherian & Asha :: Worth The Wait // Real Engagement

:: Worth The Wait ::

Photographed & Submitted by :: Bokéh Studios

Cherian had planned an epic proposal for his girlfriend, Asha, however, she wasn’t going to get just one… She got an elaborate day full of engagement hoaxes that included a dance team, card tricks, Build-A-Bear, an acapella team, drumline and more!

Asha was very patient throughout each (fake) event, but Cherian officially proposed to his girlfriend of four years near the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, where she was finally able to scream, “YES!”

Boulder, COLORADO :: Melissa & Eric :: Vintage Vibe // Real Wedding

:: Vintage Vibe ::

Submitted & photographed by :: Amanda Baker Photography

Melissa & Eric shared an intimate day with close friends and family at the Rembrandt Yard in Boulder, Colorado. Melissa wore her Grandmother’s wedding dress, that had had a few alterations to make it a touch more modern. Her wedding party wore simple lavender dresses and the gentlemen were dressed simply in a nice button-up and slacks.

I would describe the wedding as boho-chic with a flare of a vintage vibe. The art gallery was adorned in vintage place settings, with mismatched plates and glassware for the reception. The gallery served as their ceremony site, and reception site. They had a simple dinner and an AMAZING dessert bar.

While we ran into some weather, their spirits never faltered.They laughed, smiled, and got the party started by taking shots of whiskey and vodka!

I felt like part of the family by the end of the wedding.

Snohomish, WA :: A Bohemian Glam Wedding // Styled Shoot

:: A Bohemian Glam Wedding ::

Submitted & Photographed by :: GSquared Weddings

The Lookout Lodge is an amazing wooded venue nestled deep in Snohomish, in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We chose to play off of the surroundings and create something different from the normal rustic country inspired wedding. The theme for this styled shoot was ‘A Bohemian Glam Wedding’.

We especially love the rich tones, unusual bouquet, and the fact that it rained, on and off, throughout the shoot. The vendors involved executed the vision impeccably.

:: Our City, Our Story  ::

Photographed & Submitted by :: Tracy Barbour Photography

This is Phil and Diego. They are one of the most delightful couples I have every met. They live life to the fullest and recently moved in together. They love to host parties for all their friends and are super involved in community events together. They both had never had professional photos done, much less together as a couple. We had a blast for their mini couple session in Houston, the city that they both love so much and are such a big part of. I created a special slideshow after the session and at the reveal of their images, there were tears of joy. These two are an epic city love story in the making.

Milwaukee, WISCONSIN :: Ken & Jay :: Home Is Where The Heart Is // Real LGBTQ Wedding

:: Home Is Where The Heart Is ::

Photographed & Submitted by :: {MRSter ApprovedReminisce Studio by Miranda & Adam

Ken & Jay recently got married in Boston, MA, where the two of them live. Having so much love for their family and friends, they decided to have two wedding receptions, one in each of their home states: Wisconsin and Rhode Island. We were lucky enough to be the photographers for their celebration at the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the day couldn’t have gone any better!

We met up with the two handsome grooms in Café Calatrava, where some finishing touches were being made to their reception decor, and they helped each other with their bow ties- so sweet! Then we made our way around the stunning, modern museum to capture some portraits of the newlyweds. Windhover Hall, as well as all the other inspiring architectural elements, made the perfect backdrop. They were so sweet with each other, and we could tell what a wonderful pair they are.

Soon they joined their family and friends for some pictures before heading to cocktail hour. The details came together perfectly, including a cleverly illustrated menu, Jeopardy game instructions, custom place settings, etc. They also made donations in honor of their guests to Autism Speaks and the National Kidney Foundation.

Everyone enjoyed taking in the views of the Milwaukee cityscape and lakefront before it was time for dinner. Afterward, some really thoughtful, touching speeches and toasts were made. Then guests were treated to an absolutely amazing video montage that told Ken & Jay’s story, beautifully illustrated their relationship and concluded with their ceremony (cue tears of joy filling the room).

Since the two of them love playing games, they presented a game of Jeopardy for everyone to partake! It was so clever, and we loved capturing their guests having so much fun! Afterward, Ken & Jay were welcomed to the dance floor for their First Dance as newlyweds. And throughout the evening, the talented band kept the dance floor packed! Everyone was having a blast watching the band, decorating themselves with glow-sticks and dancing the night away! What a party!

Phoenix, ARIZONA :: Melanie & Laine :: Key To My Heart // Real LGBTQ Engagement

:: Key To My Heart  ::

Submitted & Photographed by :: {MRSter Approved} Elizabeth Douglas Photography

Life is a journey in so many ways. In lives we lead, in the relationships we have, and sometimes, in the bodies we were born with.

I met Melanie {MRSter Advisory Board Member} and Laine last summer, as they had won an engagement session at the Phoenix Pride Silent Auction in June. Before our face to face meeting, Melanie had sent me a link to their website, I think to “prep” me for what I was going to be experiencing during my time with them. Take some time and enjoy the “journey” with them by taking a look at Melanie’s blog here.

Their engagement session ended up being a combination of an engagement and holiday photo session with Melanie’s four kids, who were just a hoot! They weren’t too keen on an actual photo shoot, but by the end, three of them had become my “helpers” and were asking if I’d ever need any models in the future! It was so wonderful to see how excited they were for their mom and Laine, and made the shoot even more fun with some of their antics (as you can see from the images!).

Laine’s transformation from a woman to a man has been quite incredible. They’ve planned their wedding around the time when Laine’s journey would be complete. Their engagement session took place close to the half way point of this journey, as they wanted the process documented through photos as well.

I’m so grateful to have been a part of this “journey” with them, and am so excited to follow their love story as it continues to unfold.

Wedding Wisdom Wednesday :: The Most Affordable Flowers For Spring Weddings

:: The Most Affordable Flowers For Spring Weddings ::

Ahh, flowers! They are beautiful, festive and add so much pizzazz to any celebration, especially your wedding! The tradition of displaying and/or carrying flowers at weddings go back many centuries and continues to this day.

For a spring wedding, there are a number of inexpensive blooms that your florist can arrange in many delightful creations. Make sure to communicate your ideas to your florist, even if they are just general ideas, so he or she can have a direction from which to build the various arrangements for your special day. Here are a few blooms that are relatively inexpensive in the springtime, making them perfect, and affordable flowers for Spring weddings:

:: Alstroemeria :: Also known as the Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, it comes in a variety of beautiful colors and tends to last a comparatively long time. (Especially nice when you plan to give away your flowers to guests at the end of the festivities.) They resemble a delicate miniature Lily and are lovely in bouquets and flower arrangements, and even hair pieces (see below).

:: Carnations :: Probably the cheapest flowers available, these beauties also last a long time. Interestingly, their scientific name comes from two greek words   “dios”, referring to the god Zeus, and “anthos”, meaning flower. Carnations are thus known as the “The Flowers of God”. Their various colors have come to represent different meanings. For example, red carnations represent deep love and affection while white carnations represent pure love and good luck.

:: Daisy :: These naturally white but tintable springtime blooms can be used to make up an entire arrangement or can be used as filler flowers. Pretty and versatile, they are one of the most well-known flowers on earth.

:: Chrysanthemums :: Also known simply as mums, these pretty and whimsical flowers are great in bouquets and centerpieces. They symbolize fidelity, optimism, joy and long life.

:: Sweet Peas :: Wonderfully fragrant and available in a variety of colors, these springtime blossoms can be used in arrangements ranging from the elegant to the rustic, either alone or mixed with other blossoms.

Take your time to choose your flowers. Work closely with your florist, and enjoy the beauty and fragrance these springtime flowers bring to your wedding day!

Simi Valley, CALIFORNIA :: Road To Perrydise // Real LGBT Engagement

Our engagement shoot took place less than a mile from our home in the hills that we stare out at everyday. We wanted it very timeless, laid back and classy with some fun pictures to get all aspects of us. It was harder than we thought to “be natural” on camera but we LOVE the pictures, so I guess we did better than we thought.
