Querétaro, México :: When Love Is Pure, Magic Happens // Real LGBTQ Engagement

:: When Love Is Pure, Magic Happens ::

These two ladies had an engagement session that was nothing short of magical! The shoot took place in Querétaro, México, in a perfect spot that allowed the photographer to capture some beautiful images of these two beautiful ladies.

The session began in the woods, where they were completely surrounded by tall trees; the perfect landscape for some natural and intimate photographs. It was then time to incorporate another element of nature to the session; water.

They finished up their engagement session by a small lake just outside of the woods. You can feel the love that these two have for each other, it is captured in each and every image. As Marcos says himself:

“When love is pure, magic happens.”

He certainly captured one magical engagement session.

What can I say about these two? I can’t begin to explain to you the enormous amount of love between them.

The celebration, the joy and the excitement of them finally joining their love legally in front of an incredibly supportive group of people that adored them deeply was contagious. I immediately felt like a part of their group and soon became one of the many ‘sisters’ within the extended family of friends.

After 10 years dedicated to each other and alongside their daughter Ivy, Erin and Liberty tied the knot and grasped tightly to the right of marriage. As outspoken Minnesota LBGTQ activists and grand supporters of MRSter, they really understood and desired to invest in their wedding day. The trust they gave us as their wedding planners and event designers opened the door for so many amazing touches to their special day. With details of floral, gifts, food, booze, the right DJ, humor and love, they created an evening like no other.

The love between Liberty and Erin is a love you can only aspire to attain after gallons of jet fuel, after hours of hard work, after many measures of music, and after years of gazing deeply into each others eyes. This wedding was not just a celebration of their decade to each other, but a huge embrace of their love and their family.

Thank you, Liberty and Erin. You both are such giving, deep, loving and genuine spirits and your wedding day was that as well.

Top Five Friday :: Top 5 Wedding Floral Tips

:: Top 5 Wedding Floral Tips ::

MRSter is pleased to present this post from Robin of Bootah Jardin Florists! Robin is VERY knowledgeable about flowers and can help with budget-friendly ideas or full service arrangements in the Vancouver, BC area.

Her family-run business specializes in do-it-yourself event and wedding flowers, so who better to ask for some top tips to keep that floral budget down?!

1 :: Don’t focus on seasonality alone :: Requesting seasonal flowers is the single most suggested tip for trimming your flower costs, but it’s also the most out-dated. This might have been true at one time, but an expansive international floral trade has made seasonality a much less prominent factor in pricing.

There are still flowers that fluctuate in price with the seasons, but by and large, most flower pricing is stable. Rather than seasonality, flowers fall into categories- they’re either budget-friendly, high-end, or somewhere in between. So the flowers you love- despite being in the peak of their availability- may not be the most cost-effective option.

2 :: The influence of colour on price :: Colour isn’t a factor for all flower pricing, but it is for certain blooms. Where we live, particular flowers- like callas, peonies, and dahlias- are priced differently by growers based on colour. This is basic supply and demand, so unless a particular flower/colour combo holds special significance for you, request a general colour theme versus specific combinations.

3 :: The effect of flower holidays on pricing :: The two weeks preceding Valentine’s and Mother’s Day are the busiest times of year in the floral industry, and the increased demand causes a significant spike in pricing. Not only will you feel the effects of this increased demand when you seek a quote, but you may also struggle to find a florist willing to take on your wedding during these busy times.

4 :: Flexibility goes far when it comes to getting the best quote :: It’s great (and fun!) to have a vision for your big day, but the more specific you are with your requests, the more expensive your floral quote is likely to be. Your florist is restricted to buying flowers in bunches and buckets, so to meet your requests exactly, they may have to order more than they will need to use. You will still be charged for those extra flowers, so if you’re flexible on certain details, this may save you some money in the long run.

5 :: Fillers and greens are not cheap :: Adding greens and fillers to an arrangement may bring the cost down, but like all things floral, it really depends on the details. Certain greens, like dusty miller and silver brunia, are more costly than many flowers and have the opposite effect on pricing. In general, adding accents tends to increase the cost of arrangements, as the added fillers provide great texture, but don’t add much to the volume. This is why those wildflower bouquets that look simple and inexpensive are often more costly than a basic rose bouquet. It takes a lot of flowers to achieve that look, and they all add up in the end.

Chandler, ARIZONA :: Cody & Sian :: Long Distance Love // Real Wedding

:: Long Distance Love ::

Submitted by :: The Bride

Cody and I have a love story like no other.

The both of us actually met when we were toddlers; I was two years old and Cody was three years old. His dad was in the American Air Force and they were stationed in Oxfordshire in the UK (where I am originally from). Our siblings went to school together, and our families became friends because of this. After a while, Cody and his family moved back to the USA, and after that, our families unfortunately lost touch.

We had never forgotten about the Clark family, and in fact, my sister spent hours tirelessly searching the internet years later, trying to find them… Unfortunately not having any luck!

Almost twenty years later, totally out of the blue, Cody’s dad John, found my mum on Facebook… Pretty crazy! From there, Cody and I reconnected, and over time, both felt an undeniable connection that neither of us had experienced before. After almost a couple of years of doing the (extremely) long distance thing, travelling back and forth between Arizona and England to see each other (that’s over 5,000 miles away!), Cody proposed to me on Thousand Steps Beach in California on the 15th of March 2014.

I relocated to Arizona at the end of August 2014, so Cody and I could begin our life together. We then got married on the 26th of October that year! We chose to get married in an air hangar, and to have a vintage 1940’s theme; both symbolising our long distance love journey, and how we originally met by his dad being in the American Air Force. The smaller details were a fusion of British and American culture.

We had a very intimate ceremony with just our close family in attendance; some who had travelled from the UK to be there. We were also able to Skype in some of my other close family members from home who were unable to make it! The wonders of technology! Some of Cody’s closest friends joined us for the evening reception, which was nice and laid back; drinks flowing and a taco truck serving some delicious food!

It was a perfect day for the both of us, and a huge step in our crazy journey of life together!

The Lookout Lodge is an amazing wooded venue nestled deep in Snohomish, in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We chose to play off of the surroundings and create something different from the normal rustic country inspired wedding. The theme for this styled shoot was ‘A Bohemian Glam Wedding’.

We especially love the rich tones, unusual bouquet, and the fact that it rained, on and off, throughout the shoot. The vendors involved executed the vision impeccably.

This is Phil and Diego. They are one of the most delightful couples I have every met. They live life to the fullest and recently moved in together. They love to host parties for all their friends and are super involved in community events together. They both had never had professional photos done, much less together as a couple. We had a blast for their mini couple session in Houston, the city that they both love so much and are such a big part of. I created a special slideshow after the session and at the reveal of their images, there were tears of joy. These two are an epic city love story in the making.

Atlanta, GEORGIA :: Cara & Wes :: A Perfect Cup Of Coffee // Real LGBTQ Wedding

:: A Perfect Cup Of Coffee  ::

Photographed & Submitted by :: High Gravity Photography

Cara and Wes have a truly infectious love for one another. One that is filled with laughter, a lot of love, and a good cup of coffee. Seemingly simple, that cup of coffee symbolizes Wes and Cara’s love story. The time and patience it takes to find and grow a beautiful relationship is so similar to articulately crafting that perfect cup of coffee.

That morning contained just the right amount of friends and family. Getting ready together made all the difference that day. Robyn the make up artist from Haus of Fluff was set and started with the brides.The artistry of the room was not defined by the make up artist or hair stylist that day, but by the beauty of the glances they shared across the room or the simple touch of each others hand. The laughter, the love, and the support encased the beauty in that room that morning. The little moments throughout the day were shared together. And trust me, there was not a dull moment that day.

As the door opened, Cara took her first step towards her love, her sugar to her spice, her everything, her life. Wes waited patiently, anxiously, nervously. The moment had finally come, the straws were aligned, the morning had gone by so fast, and was now ground to a halt. Here she was, just a girl waiting on a girl. Just like the first sip of coffee in the morning, Wes held onto this moment. Turning around, she smiled and through that smile she whispered “oh God, you are do BEAUTIFUL!” They froze for just a second; breathing in the same aroma of pure, unwavering, love that was in the air.

From a coffee shop to their first look, Cara and Wes’s Love Story was like Ambrosia for the soul. The wedding party watched through tear soaked windows panes. With each smile they wiped away tears, and with every laugh they giggled. Their movements unposed, blended perfectly with each angle, as we focused in, their love brewed with every kiss and I love you.

Ashton Gardens is set beautifully on the outskirts of Atlanta Georiga, tucked into a corner of heaven. The chapel adorned with glass windows from floor to ceiling. Displaying the sunset and trees that were to be the back drop of Cara and Wes’s wedding day. The candles were lit and placed down the aisle. The sun was setting, the guests had arrived, the music started to play, and Wes steadied her mom as they opened the great wooden doors.

The ceremony was witnessed by friends, family and enough Baristas to fill a Starbucks! Each person had shared in a part of their love story. From the people who taught them the art and craft of a perfect cup of coffee, to the lifelong friends that had watched them become this perfect partnership of love. So with all the love and laughter they could fit in that little chapel, Cara and Wes vowed to one another that they “were enough and would always be so enough” for one another. With rings and vows, they sealed their love with a kiss as the music softly started to play an unmistakably recognizable tune. Every head in the room turned to Cara and Wes as the chorus sang out, and everyone sang along to ‘Dirty Dancing’ soundtrack song, “I’ve had the time of my life”. Through smiles, applause, and tears, Wes and Cara fittingly danced their way down the aisle as wives! They stopped in the middle for a sweet kiss, and their dancing wedding party followed.

Wes and Cara personally embraced and thanked each person for coming. Hugs, thank you’s, and “I love you’s” filled the room. After speeches, the couple was called to the dance floor to get the party started. Every step, every dance move, every laugh, and every voice that sang along to every song played was a tribute to Wes and Cara’s beautiful day.

Milwaukee, WISCONSIN :: Ken & Jay :: Home Is Where The Heart Is // Real LGBTQ Wedding

:: Home Is Where The Heart Is ::

Photographed & Submitted by :: {MRSter ApprovedReminisce Studio by Miranda & Adam

Ken & Jay recently got married in Boston, MA, where the two of them live. Having so much love for their family and friends, they decided to have two wedding receptions, one in each of their home states: Wisconsin and Rhode Island. We were lucky enough to be the photographers for their celebration at the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the day couldn’t have gone any better!

We met up with the two handsome grooms in Café Calatrava, where some finishing touches were being made to their reception decor, and they helped each other with their bow ties- so sweet! Then we made our way around the stunning, modern museum to capture some portraits of the newlyweds. Windhover Hall, as well as all the other inspiring architectural elements, made the perfect backdrop. They were so sweet with each other, and we could tell what a wonderful pair they are.

Soon they joined their family and friends for some pictures before heading to cocktail hour. The details came together perfectly, including a cleverly illustrated menu, Jeopardy game instructions, custom place settings, etc. They also made donations in honor of their guests to Autism Speaks and the National Kidney Foundation.

Everyone enjoyed taking in the views of the Milwaukee cityscape and lakefront before it was time for dinner. Afterward, some really thoughtful, touching speeches and toasts were made. Then guests were treated to an absolutely amazing video montage that told Ken & Jay’s story, beautifully illustrated their relationship and concluded with their ceremony (cue tears of joy filling the room).

Since the two of them love playing games, they presented a game of Jeopardy for everyone to partake! It was so clever, and we loved capturing their guests having so much fun! Afterward, Ken & Jay were welcomed to the dance floor for their First Dance as newlyweds. And throughout the evening, the talented band kept the dance floor packed! Everyone was having a blast watching the band, decorating themselves with glow-sticks and dancing the night away! What a party!
