Portland, OREGON :: David & Spencer :: It's All In The Details // Real LGBTQ Wedding

:: It’s All In The Details ::

Photography :: Steele Photography

You always hear other couples say their wedding was ‘the best day ever”, but our wedding really was the BEST day ever! Everything was perfectly masculine with touches of glam throughout… What more could two grooms ask for? From custom furniture, lighting, napkins and matchbooks to signature cocktails, photobooth and a live band – no detail went unnoticed.

We each had our must have list during the planning process. Delegation and teamwork is a must! David was all about the food (oh the food!) and booze. Spencer was all about the ambiance. Really take the time to make your wedding specific to you as a couple. Don’t be scared to ask for things out of the norm! And don’t feel like you have to do something because it “is normal”. After all, you only get this day once!

We wouldn’t have been able to make our wedding day dreams come to life without the expertise of our planner and coordination team who worked closely with our long list of rock star vendors. Choose these people wisely – you will spend a lot of time with them.

We’ll never forget the feeling of walking into our venue the day of seeing everything come to life and taking a moment to truly appreciate each and every detail. No one ever tells you how fast wedding day goes. Be careful to not blink or it might be over ūüėČ Don’t stress about the small stuff (small stuff will happen that no one will ever even notice) and take every second of amazingness in.

What can I say about these two? I can’t begin to explain to you the enormous amount of love between them.

The celebration, the joy and the excitement of them finally joining their love legally in front of an incredibly supportive group of people that adored them deeply was contagious. I immediately felt like a part of their group and soon became one of the many ‘sisters’ within the extended family of friends.

After 10 years dedicated to each other and alongside their daughter Ivy, Erin and Liberty tied the knot and grasped tightly to the right of marriage. As outspoken Minnesota LBGTQ activists and grand supporters of MRSter, they really understood and desired to invest in their wedding day. The trust they gave us as their wedding planners and event designers opened the door for so many amazing touches to their special day. With details of floral, gifts, food, booze, the right DJ, humor and love, they created an evening like no other.

The love between Liberty and Erin is a love you can only aspire to attain after gallons of jet fuel, after hours of hard work, after many measures of music, and after years of gazing deeply into each others eyes. This wedding was not just a celebration of their decade to each other, but a huge embrace of their love and their family.

Thank you, Liberty and Erin. You both are such giving, deep, loving and genuine spirits and your wedding day was that as well.

Cody and I have a love story like no other.

The both of us actually met when we were toddlers; I was two years old and Cody was three years old. His dad was in the American Air Force and they were stationed in Oxfordshire in the UK (where I am originally from). Our siblings went to school together, and our families became friends because of this. After a while, Cody and his family moved back to the USA, and after that, our families unfortunately lost touch.

We had never forgotten about the Clark family, and in fact, my sister spent hours tirelessly searching the internet years later, trying to find them… Unfortunately not having any luck!

Almost twenty years later, totally out of the blue, Cody’s dad John, found my mum on Facebook… Pretty crazy! From there, Cody and I reconnected, and over time, both felt an undeniable connection that neither of us had experienced before. After almost a couple of years of doing the (extremely) long distance thing, travelling back and forth between Arizona and England to see each other (that’s over 5,000 miles away!), Cody proposed to me on Thousand Steps Beach in California on the 15th of March 2014.

I relocated to Arizona at the end of August 2014, so Cody and I could begin our life together. We then got married on the 26th of October that year! We chose to get married in an air hangar, and to have a vintage 1940’s theme; both symbolising our long distance love journey, and how we originally met by his dad being in the American Air Force. The smaller details were a fusion of British and American culture.

We had a very intimate ceremony with just our close family in attendance; some who had travelled from the UK to be there. We were also able to Skype in some of my other close family members from home who were unable to make it! The wonders of technology! Some of Cody’s closest friends joined us for the evening reception, which was nice and laid back; drinks flowing and a taco truck serving some delicious food!

It was a perfect day for the both of us, and a huge step in our crazy journey of life together!

:: Wine, Food, Friends… And LOVE!¬†::

Photographed & Submitted by :: {MRSter Approved} Elizabeth Douglas Photography

Meet Jamy {of MRSter Approved Eternal Event Design} and Marvin, a couple of the best guys you will ever meet. Funloving. Silly (and serious). Lovers of good wine, food, friends, and love.

Fourteen years ago in January, these two met at a bar in Chicago, and let’s just say the rest is history. Life has brought them from where they began in Chicago, out to the valley of the sun, where they’ve continued with their love of all that is good (wine, food, and friends). These two know how to put on a party, let me tell you!

Funny thing is, they’re not much for having their photos taken, so we had to come up with a fun way of capturing them. Thankfully, their engagement session was done as their friend and not their photographer, or we probably wouldn’t have been able to capture some of these shots (those of you who are photographers would understand!).¬†So, we took a “walk” one cloudy day through old town Gilbert, and finished things off, with what else, a glass of wine?

Many thanks to the person who had their ADORABLE bike locked up, as this was our million dollar shot of the session! I might have to invest in one of these for future sessions!

I can’t even begin to tell you how honored I was when they asked me to be their wedding photographer! This was going to be my first Mr. & Mr. event, and I was THRILLED! I am looking forward to showing off their wedding images in a future submission, as they won the “2015 Best Wedding Under $50,000” presented by the International Special Event Society, Arizona Chapter. You’re gonna FLIP when you see what they managed to pull off!

Rachel and Laura had a charming St. Paul, Minnesota wedding that took place in Irvine Park, and the reception followed across the street at the Science Museum of Minnesota.

They incorporated all things they love in to their special day, which included; Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Harry Potter! All of the details they put into their wedding complimented the locations perfectly, and signified their relationship.

It was a perfect day for the two of them, and it felt as if you had just entered the world that they share together. Beautiful.

Pyr√©n√©es-Orientales, FRANCE :: Benjamin & Daniel :: Charming Ch√Ęteau In France // Real LGBTQ Wedding

:: Charming Ch√Ęteau¬†In France ::

Photographed by :: Lemon Three Photo

After more than 8 years of a long-distance relationship; Daniel living in London, UK and Benjamin in Perpignan, France, we decided to¬†tie the knot in the south of France, close to Benjamin’s home town. The wedding was the coming together of both of our families.

The organisation of the wedding was challenging as Daniel was still living in the UK, and Benjamin in France. This meant that precious weekends were spent meeting suppliers, food tasting, and organizing, well… everything. The rest was done via Skype – and thank goodness for our Wedding Planner, Sarah, who managed this with ease! Another challenge we faced was ensuring that both our English and French families felt at ease. To do this, we made sure that all elements and written communication¬†were done in both languages.

The moment we saw Ch√Ęteau Valmy, we knew this was the place we wanted to get married. The castle is set in the beautiful region of the Pyr√©n√©es-Orientales; with stunning views of the Mediterranean sea on one side, and the Pyrenees mountains on the other. The castle is surrounded by beautiful gardens and its own vineyard.

With the grand setting we wanted the wedding to reflect this as well. We opted for a Black Tie dress code (which was pretty unusual for our French guests who¬†are not so used to Black Tie events). Preparations took part in the castle itself. The wedding ceremony took place in two parts; the morning at the town hall for the official signing of the papers, and then at 4.30pm in the afternoon in the gardens of the castle. The decor was simple and elegant with white chairs and a large arch of Giposofilia. Bridesmaids bouquets and the groom’s button holes were a mixture of deep red roses and Calla Lily. The ceremony was conducted by the mayor of a local town (the same one from the morning), who is a close family friend. Readings from our nearest and dearest, were mixed between English and French so all guests could understand.

The cocktail reception followed in the castle’s vineyard with magnificent views of the vineyard and the sea, with a jazz band playing softly in the background. Wines were from the vineyard and 16 different canapes were served with chef stations scattered in the garden.¬†The evening dinner then followed indoors. Decoration was elegant and understated, with emphasis put on lighting and candles, with a simple Gipsofilia centerpiece.

Speeches from ¬†Benjamin’s brother and Daniel’s father then led to the champagne toast, entrance of the croque en bouche tower, and then an evening with an open bar and DJ from Ibiza… We partied until 6am!

:: Blessings From Above ::

Photographed by :: Anjeanette Illustration Photography

The couple met their sophomore year at University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where Laura was studying for her Architecture degree, and Jeremy for his Sport Management degree. Jeremy planned a surprise Christmas time proposal near a pond and fountain, where he had draped his car in white Christmas lights and “Make You Feel My Love” by Adele was playing over the stereo.

Fast forward to the wedding…¬†They say when it rains on a wedding day, blessings and good fortune are pouring down from above, and in that case Laura & Jeremy were indeed covered! Jeremy and Laura were both so giddy and excited to be getting married that the weather did not phase them! As a photographer, their positive and excited attitudes made all the difference in the world for successful photos.

In my opinion, a happy brides smile makes for the best of photos! Thankfully, we had had a brief dry moment before the storm for an intimate first look, with only a large group of deer to witness! Their wedding day in September was 7 years to the weekend from when they first began dating, and Laura said she was so excited to be marrying her best friend!

One of the most touching parts of this sweet and intimate wedding, was the display table of framed portraits of family members on their wedding days. Also, many of the items were handmade by family in a very chic and charming manner. Their guests signed well wishes into their bible, and several large groupings of soft candle light completed the warm glow.

Cody and I actually met on the school playground MANY years ago, when we were both just babies; I was two years old and Cody was three years old. His dad was in the American Air Force and they were stationed in Oxfordshire in the UK (where I am originally from). Our siblings went to primary school (elementary) together, and our families became friends because of this.

Almost twenty years later, Cody and I reconnected, and ended up falling head over heels for each other. After doing the long distance thing for a couple of years, Cody proposed to me on Thousand Steps Beach in California on the 15th of March 2014!

Due to the background of how we first met, we chose a park as the location for our engagement shoot. We played on the kids playground for half of the session, and it was so much fun! Our photographer, Chelsee, made us feel so relaxed and comfortable, the three of us were laughing and joking around all day. We then went to our second location, DC Ranch, to finish up the shoot. It was a blast, and as I’m sure you’ll agree, Chelsee captured some amazing engagement photos for us!

Concord, NORTH CAROLINA :: Little Red Riding Hood & The Huntsman // Justin & Bridgit // Real Wedding

:: Little Red Riding Hood & The Huntsman ::

Submitted and Photographed by :: Ellen of Due West Photography

Both Justin and Bridgit are incredibly creative people, and I knew their wedding was going to be beautiful and unique to their personalities. I love weddings where you can see the love, excitement and effort that the couple have poured into it, and this was the most personalized wedding I’ve ever seen.

They went with a Little Red Riding Hood and the Huntsman theme, and it was beyond anything I could have imagined! The venue was perfect (cozy and in the middle of the woods) and the decorations were out of a fairy tale. This wedding was an accumulation of an absolutely giddy couple who were delighted about their wedding, two incredible families and some seriously amazing bridesmaids and groomsmen who really took the day to the next level.

Everything seemed to cooperate with this wedding, even the weather; the rain held off just long enough for the ceremony and couple shots, and the woods were vibrant green and smelled incredible from the storm the day before. It cooled the temperature down perfectly on what would have otherwise been a typical hot and muggy North Carolina September day. And most importantly, it could not have been more obvious how happy everyone was for Justin and Bridgit. This was one of those weddings that reminds me why I do this, and why this is one of the best jobs in the world.

If you’re thinking this beautiful couple look familiar, you may have spotted their ‘Roadtrip Romance’ engagement shoot on our blog before! Take a peek here.
